Match reports for Winter 2007/2008

April 2008

Concord 3 returned from the Easter Break to face Thorne Ladies on Tuesday evening 01 April.  Thorne set out to spike any hopes Concord had of back- to-back victories with a furious pace and took an early lead. Feeding the rebounds from Concord's shooting lapses to their mid-field, Thorne spiked Concord's confidence with a five goal lead. With a mixture of skill, experience and determination, the three Concord defenders dug deep to keep the team in the game as the final quarter started. Concord finally realised that this was no April fools, question time was over and answers were needed as the reality of defeat approached. Goal attempts which had previously hovered and circled the rim to pop disappointingly out now started to go in and as the final whistle blew, the Thorne Ladies could hardly believe it, Concord had hedged them out of it by shading a one-goal victory to take 3rd place in the league.

March 2008

Concord 3 tackled the Scorpions on Tues 4 March  for a crunch 2nd place decider in the table.  In spite of a valiant recovery in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, Concord appeared to have no antidote to the Scorpion's bite and fell away to a numbing defeat in the final minutes of play. Concord's failure to contain the Scorpions, their catalogue of unforced errors and misunderstandings drained away the team's usual confidence and needlessly allowed the opposition to build a victory. Nonetheless, Concord 3 are growing in stature and self belief: this was an uncharacteristic display from them.

February 2008

Concord 3 were in action again on Tuesday night 26 Feb taking on a determined EISS Breezers. Initially Concord appeared to either ball watch or spend too much time with the ball, wasting opportunities and allowing Breezers to close them down. After falling behind in the first quarter, their revival grew out of a more dogged defence and an apparent determination to chase every ball. Their gutsy spirit soon paid dividends as the Breezers' challenge fell away despite some accurate shooting from their Goal Attack. Concord's defence forced more and more long shots and the resulting misses were punished by intelligent link-up play with Concord's accurate shooting pair.  Concord ended the match in full control of all thirds. A convincing win in the end.
