A Quick History

The Club was founded in 1974 in Shiregreen at Concord Sports Club where it took its name.  It is one of South Yorkshire's oldest and most successful clubs and has been providing coaching sessions and competing in netball since 1974. Concord was awarded Silver Caps Accreditation in April 2007 and is an affiliated member of England Netball (ID number 2782)

The Club was originally set up for senior netball players but  more recently a strong junior section has been developed and Concord now coaches and fields competitive netball teams at all levels from Y5 upwards.

In 2005 Sheffield Concord Netball Club moved to the English Institute for Sport Sheffield where it is now based. Concord teams compete not only in local leagues but also in regional and national competitions too. The club training sessions are run by qualified and experienced netball coaches and PE teachers.

‘Girls on Tour!’

(Investment in netball is for life)

We all start out playing netball because we love the game but as time goes on we only continue to play if we are content with our team mates.  This can be that the team all strive for the same success, that the team all play to keep fit, or that they are all in it just for the fun of it!  Well over the years the ‘mature’ team from Sheffield Concord Netball Club have been through all of those stages!

In our prime in the 80’s we were annual qualifiers for the clubs national knock out at Wembley before the International matches (we were runners up of this on one year) and regularly had good top placings in the country.  We also made up the majority of the South Yorkshire County team at that time winning Division Two to become one of the top 8 counties in the country.  We reformed ‘just for the fun of it’ when we all became 40+ vets and went on to have four years of success in a range of Open age and Vets Tournaments.

Although many of us still play and volunteer for Sheffield Concord, our latest venture has not included netball (apart from the latest gossip and shared memories over a drink or two!) due to a sprinkling of over use injuries!  We replaced the netball weekends with 50th birthday celebrations!  Our first was a weekend away to Centre Parcs on Jeanne's birthday and was so loved by all that the eight of us have been on a London/Wimbledon/Theatre trip for Sue C and Jane's combined birthdays, to Spain for Barbara and Linda and the latest was a week in Portugal for Liz and Helen's 50ths!  With one more 50th to go (Sue M), we are already planning to start 55th birthday celebration trips away together as we cannot wait till we turn 60!

We thought you might like to share in our continued friendship - it is 35 years on since the first of us played netball together and still our netball roots are keeping us together!
