Sheffield‘s First High Fives Netball Festival

On Thursday 12th July  Sheffield Concord , in conjunction with The Arches and Points School Sports Partnerships, staged what is to be believed Sheffield’s first ever High Fives Netball Festival at the Goals Sports Centre,  Sheffield.  Qualified coaches from Sheffield Concord Netball Club have been visiting six schools over the past six weeks, delivering coaching sessions covering the basic skills of netball to pupils in Y4 and Y5 and introducing them to the game of High Fives.

The Junior coaching programme was coordinated by Jane Webster and Liz Hughes and delivered by Sue and Lucy Crowley, Laura Hughes, Katie Coates, Roanne Minshull, Jenny Gleadall, Vicky Greensill and Rebecca Trevor. The coaching initiative was financially supported by the Big Lottery Fund which has enabled the club to take High Fives Netball into the local primary schools with over 100 children receiving quality coaching from qualified club members. This will provide excellent pathways for the children to progress through to club participation.

The coaching culminated in the High Fives Festival which gave the pupils plenty of opportunity to put into practise the skills they had been taught. Well done to all schools that took part, there was some excellent and exciting Netball played on the day. Well done to St Mary’s who were Runners up, but a big “Congratulations” goes to the eventual winners, Springfield.

Many thanks to all the coaches for their hard work and also to the following for their help at the festival: Becka Podlaski, Charlotte Webster, Amy Wilson, Katie Sutherland, Sophie Arundale and Mrs Arundale.

Brigg and District Netball Tournament
Sheffield Concord had a good day out when they entered 2 teams into the Annual Brigg Netball Tournament on 17 June 2007.  The competition attracted teams from as far afield as Northhampton and the standard was extremely high with regional and national talent players participating.
In the
Under 12 section, Sheffield Concord came in third place, narrowly losing out on goal difference to the second placed team . They lost only one game all day, to the eventual tournament winners , Alfa, by a narrow margin of two goals. In the Under 16 section, Concord were runners up, again only losing one game all day to the eventual tournament winners by only 2 goals. Excellent and well deserved victories were achieved against local rivals including Chevrons and Brigg - see results page. Well done to everyone who took part, to team managers and umpires and parents for their support.  Jane
